Our Team

Jeff Courson is a Metis, military veteran, from Burnaby.   He obtained his BA (Honours) at Bishop's University in what was then called Lennoxville, Quebec and completed his term of service with the Canadian Forces having served both as an Infantry Officer and as a Maritime Surface Officer (Naval Warfare Officer).  He was honourably discharged to pursue his law degree and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver.

 Jeff practices primarily in civil litigation and business law, but does work in other areas as required including family law, wills and estates, and property matters.  

Jeff has handled litigation issues from all aspects of Family Law to a variety of complex civil matters including assault and sexual assault, breaches of contracts including commercial and residential real estate, inter-provincial and international supply contracts, defamation, civil assault, civil sexual assault, and trespass.    

Jeff advises multiple businesses on business structures, corporate books, contract matters, employment matters, regulatory compliance, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, risk allocation, permitting and zoning, and intellectual property and privacy.

Growing up in Vancouver, Tian is a dedicated lawyer who practices in immigration, family law, and wills and estate planning.

He completed a Bachelors degree in History at the University of British Columbia, and his law degree at the University of Victoria. 

Tian has handled litigation issues involving family law including parenting time and property division, residential real estate, employment law, and small claims.

Coming from Surrey, Kiran completed her law degree at the University of Liverpool in the UK and articled at a full service firm in Surrey after completing her accreditation through the Law Society of British Columbia.  

Prior to attending law school, Kiran worked as a legal assistant and gained a significant amount of practical experience which benefits her clients.

She currently focusses on family law and wills and estate planning, but also engages in corporate and business law and in real estate conveyancing.

She brings solid experience and expertise in helping people and businesses resolve problems and plan for the future as efficiently and effectively as possible. 

Kaylie Hanna is excited to join the team at Umbrella Law as an articling student! 

Originally from Calgary, AB, she moved to Vancouver to pursue an orchestral performance degree at the University of British Columbia, playing the flute. After a brief career as an Arts & Education Administrator with organizations such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Goh Ballet Academy, she returned to UBC in 2020 to pursue a law degree. 

Kaylie served as an advocate for the student body as the Director of Communications for the Law Student's Society, and gained valuable experience in Family Law as a temporarily articled student with Rise Women's Legal Centre serving low-income women in the lower mainland.

Kaylie is dedicated to providing compassionate and insightful assistance and support throughout your legal matters. 

In her spare time, she loves to be outside in nature, swing dancing, playing music, cooking, or generally being crafty and creative. You can occasionally spot Kaylie in the background of Hallmark films, or around Vancouver where she is always keeping an eye out for dogs that she can pet. 

Kaylie's first language is English and she is fluent, albeit rusty, in French. 

Leticia Chu is excited to join the team at Umbrella Law as a legal assistant prior to when she commences her role as an articling student in October of 2024! 

Letitia Chu is a long-time resident of Burnaby and is delighted to be staying here. She obtained her law degree at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and completed her Master of Laws Common Law degree at the University of British Columbia. 

As someone who is committed to access to justice, Letitia applies a humanistic approach in supporting clients through their legal matters. 

She is fluent in Cantonese and conversational in Mandarin.
